Dear Parents
and Guardians,
Trips
Thank you to
so many of you who traveled to Yankee Stadium with us. We deem
the trip a great success due to the diligence of the staff
members and chaperones who attended.
The students’
behavior was exemplary, and we didn’t lose any of them. We all
say a special thank you to Mrs. Campion who was the ‘champion’
behind the scenes seeing to so many details from securing the
tickets and buses to finding seats for all. A few more trips
are on the horizon and we look forward to having more fun as the
children expand their learning beyond the classroom doors.
SIS –
Student Information System
Please
remember that with our new internet based system, you can access
your child’s grades and assignments daily. Because this
information is available to you, Progress Reports are no longer
being sent home mid- quarter. Now would be a good time to check
on your child’s achievement so far this quarter in order to keep
them (or in some cases get them) on the right track until
Finals. If you are concerned about your child’s behavior I
suggest you send a quick e-mail to homeroom teachers who will
then give you a quick response.
Parking Lot /Entrance and
Dismissal Routines
I am beginning
to feel like the “Parking Lot Nazi.” We continue to notice that
some drivers do not pay attention to parking lot etiquette.
Please, please, please pay attention to the rules of the parking
lot:
-
Park only in
designated spots
-
Please do not
utilize the first two rows of numbered spots even if just
‘dropping off.’ These are staff spots.
-
Do not utilize
the upper lot when picking up Pre-K and 11:30
-
Do not utilize
the oval during dismissal hours
-
Do not utilize
an entrance as and exit and vise versa
-
When parking in
the upper lot at dismissal, please exit from the upper lot
onto Dempsey Pl. – do not re-enter the lower lot to exit.
-
Please travel
only in the designated directions.
-
Please do not
attempt to conference with your child’s teacher in the
parking lots (morning or afternoon). This is a public forum
not suitable for private conversations. Please send an email
to teachers to request a conference.
Although it is
nice to know our students hate to leave at the end of the day,
we are concerned about them playing in the oval after school. By
all means stay and chat awhile, but please keep your eyes on the
little ones. Please do not allow them to run around or play
ball. Remember the oval is not a fenced in yard and cars and
buses continue to travel around the grassy area. Let’s avoid any
accidents!
Drivers, please be
diligent at all times!!!!
Entrance
If you find
yourself arriving after 8:10 a.m. please adjust your schedule.
Kindergarten and Pre-K students should be dropped off at the
appropriate doors on the first floor by 8:10. Students in grades
1-8 should be entering the building with their class. In the
event of rain in the morning, all students should enter through
the lower level, not the front door. Once I re-enter the
building we are preparing for prayers and announcements that
begin at 8:20. If your child does arrive late, please do not
escort your child to the classroom, leave them at the front door
or the office and office staff will let them know if they can go
down the hall or must wait at the office so as not to interrupt
prayer in the classroom.
Pre-K Pick up
When picking
up your child from Pre-K, especially at 11:30, please do not
allow your children to remain and play in the yards. This is
disruptive to classes, especially Kindergarten which is still in
session.
Please also
avoid some potentially dangerous situations .Do not allow your
child to play on the hilly area. From time to time we find some
broken glass in this area. This may be caused by cars that enter
our lots at night. Also please, please, please do not allow your
little ones to climb the fences! Yes, some of them have done so.
They could be seriously hurt if they fall. We suggest a visit to
a nearby playground with monkey bars is a safer way to meet
their natural instinct to climb. The weather is getting nicer;
why not plan a play date after school?
Best of Broadway
Don’t miss the
hottest show in town. Check your child’s backpack or our website
for ticket order forms, or listen for the prompt on our school
phone to order tickets. I have seen the previews; we are all in
for a great treat!
Thanks for
taking the time to read this!
Sincerely,
Maureen J.
