During Catholic Schools Week the entire student body along with Faculty and staff joined for a picture to form an arrow. We are calling attention to the sign announcing the construction of our new parish gymnasium. Excitement heightens as we are drawing ever nearer to announcing ground breaking! Once again the children have taken home coin banks to continue their collection of loose change to be found at home, between the couch cushions, in their pockets, or yours! Thank you for helping them in this campaign.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
To borrow a slogan from the recent campaign,” Yes We Can!” Because of the generosity of so many we are building a gym! Pledges and donations continue to be received. No amount of money is too small, even the children can help with their coin donations.
When you have a chance, please stop by the hallway outside the main office. Recently we hung two new bulletin boards. One will host good news and notices about our school and students. The second one will be used to keep track of the number of collection banks our students fill and bring to school. For each full can returned we will fill in one box on the graph. Which class will bring in the most? Which student will return the most cans? We can’t wait to find out!
A 4 foot Lucite collection bin has also been placed in the hall. Last week the first group of students, 88 to be exact, who had already returned their banks, enjoyed the thrill of dumping the coins and some bills into the bin. What fun they had! Each of these students then took another bank home to be filled! Approximately 50 more full banks have been returned since. Each week we will continue dumping the coins into the big bank until it can hold no more!
Don’t miss out on this fun. I’ll bet just by searching your house, (don’t forget to check in between the couch cushions) car, pockets, etc. you can fill a can with all the found change. We most especially encourage the children to participate in this collection. Making small sacrifices with birthday, sacrament or holiday money will give them the satisfaction of knowing they can make a difference. Each one who contributes can then stake a claim in our gym.
Using the architect’s drawings, our collection project will continue with the construction of a model of the new gym. The empty cans will serve as the building blocks for this structure. This project will be set up in the cafeteria.
Classes will also participate in an essay writing contest. We’ll ask the students to write about why we need a gym for our school and parish. You may wish to help them get some ideas ready. When we work out the details about the contest, we’ll send them home.
Thank you for your continuing support for our school and parish. With your help we will pass on this generous spirit to the next generation.
