History - History has always been my first love. I have had the privilege of teaching history at Westchester Community College as an Adjunct Professor, and at St. Mary’s School at the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade levels. I also had the fun of making two educational videos, one of which won the “Parents’ Choice Award” in 1999. Being a member of several reenacting groups gave me the opportunity of appearing in several movies, including “The Patriot” and “Gettysburg”. As a teacher at St. Mary’s School, I ran the Dance, Drama, and Chess Clubs. It has been very satisfying to pass on knowledge to students in an entertaining manner. Jack Ciotti

Drama - Students learn the skills of acting and putting on a stage production. The short plays they learn are based on incidents in American History, and there are parts for both boys and girls with varying skill levels. I provide all the costumes and the students make some simple props. The plays can then be performed for the parents of the club members or for other students in the school, the time involved being approximately 45 minutes. The maximum number of the students for these plays is fifteen and the minimum age group should be fourth graders. The students at St. Mary’s who were in these plays were fifth-seventh graders. At least five-seven rehearsal times are needed.

19th Century Dance - this club will conclude with a dance performance by the students for parents!

Students learn dances from the 19th and 20th centuries, including the history and music behind each dance. They then put on a show for the rest of the school. The ‘Master of Ceremonies’ presents the audience with the history of each dance, and then the dance is demonstrated by the students. I provide the costumes, and the students make some simple props. The maximum number of students for this club is twenty, and the minimum age group should be fourth graders. At least five rehearsal times are needed

Chess - Students learn the basics of the game and play different members of the group at each session while music by Mozart is played in the background. A tournament is held in the final sessions with a first and second place winner. At least five sessions are needed.

Please note the Chess Club will be offered during lunchtime!

Other club still open:

Clay -  Kindergarten - 6th Grade - Ms. Garabo

These clubs are entertaining and fun for the students, but learning various skills is the most important aspect. In the drama and dance clubs, they also learn to work together in a group effort. Each club ends with a party!
